We know that for most people the thought of having their photo taken is terrifying… and we get it… but here’s the thing… after you have your engagement session you are going to be so much better prepared for your wedding day! Your engagement session is your chance to get to know us, get comfortable with the camera and have some fun.
"What do we wear?"
We have a great Pinterest board that will give you an idea of what colours photograph well together. The best advice we can give about outfit selection would be to try to coordinate but that doesn’t mean “matching”.
Wearing the same colour in a different shade is actually more ideal than trying to find the exact colour! If one of you is wearing something with a lot of colour and pattern, sometimes it’s best to have the other person wear a neutral tone!
We ask that you keep away from bright colours like yellow, red and orange, large logos, spots, stripes and thongs also don't photograph well. And to make sure you are equal when it comes to how formal your attire is.
"Where and when does the shoot take place?"
The best time to shoot any portraits is normally about 1 hour before sunset and this rule of thumb can be applied to any time of the year.
When it comes to picking the location for your portraits, we shoot primarily in and around Newcastle. If you love the ocean we recommend Redhead, Dudly or Caves Beach. Maybe an urban walk through the city is more your vibe.
Whatever your style, we can work together to find the perfect spot!
"Is there anything we should do to prepare for our shoot?"
We highly recommend sitting down together and going through a couple of your favourite engagement sessions prior to your own session. It may have been a while since you have looked through the blog and having a refresher is always a good idea.
What you see on the blog will give you a strong indication of what you are to expect during your session and the type of images we are aiming to capture. It will help if you are both on the same page when your session arrives.
"Should I get my hair and makeup done professionally?"
We recommend paying attention to your hair and makeup, it always helps to make your images look flawless! Some of our couples try to coordinate their hair and makeup trial the same day as the e-session, this is a great idea and will help you get a very visual understanding of how you will look in your photos on your wedding day.
We also recommend giving your engagement ring a quick polish, even with some warm water and a non-abrasive cloth - it will make such a difference in your images - after all this is your engagement session and the ring is a big part of your story.
"We are feeling super nervous"
We totally understand and we know this probably seems obvious, but just be yourself!
We always suggest having a 'loved up' day prior to your session, grab some lunch, get a drink, relax and do something you really enjoy. By the time we meet, you are both filled with love and excitement for each other and the session. We want to capture you on your best day! As you’re preparing for your engagement session, remember that we don’t expect you to know what to do.
Relax, you’re going to be great at this!
